Northwest Portland, OR
Real Estate

Northwest Portland starts next to downtown and moves Northwest along the beautiful riverfront between Forest Park, the largest urban natural forest reserve, and the Willamette river (map). Many of the Northwest Portland neighborhoods are referred to interchangeably as downtown Portland due to their proximity to the heart of the city.

Some of the most famous Northwest/Downtown neighborhoods include the Pearl District and Goose Hollow, both of which won awards as best places to retire in 2007 from Money Magazine.

Parks & Recreation
Numerous parks and plazas dot the Northwest Portland cityscape. The most pular park is almost certainly the Tom McCall Waterfront Park that provides a 29 acre waterfront promenade running directly along the Willamette river and is notable for having been built on the site of a former multilane expressway; in the summertime this park is variously home to a seasonal fair/amusement park and a farmer's market.

Another great destination is Forest Park, the largest municipal park in the nation, which defines the boundaries of Northwest Portland and offers residents over 5000 acres of natural beauty to explore in the form of hiking and equestrian trails and unique land features. Other notable parks include the pair of North Park Blocks and South Park Blocks which provide basketball courts, playgrounds, and walking paths in the heart of the city.

The Nortwest Portland region is officially known as Neighbors West/Northwest (NW/NW) and is comprised of Arlington Heights, Downtown Portland, Forest Park, Goose Hollow, Hillside, Linnton, Northwest Industrial Neighorhood, Northwest District, Northwest Heights, The Pearl District, and Sylvan-Highlands.

Southwest Portland, OR
Real Estate

Bounded by the Willamette River to the East, and Burnside Street to the North, the Southwest area enjoys some of the best views and the most irregular terrain of any region in Portland. If you are looking for good schools, parks, and a large backyard, then you will certainly want to explore this side of Portland.

Historically, because of the abundance of flat land to build on in other parts of Portland, the Southwest region was developed more recently in Portland's history, especially as you get further away from downtown. This means that Southwest Portland is home to many of Portland's newer retail developments and enjoys modern shopping plazas and good access to freeways.

Parks & Recreation

Southwest Portland is home to dozens of parks and natural areas, including the 175-acre Marquam Nature Park, 645-acre Tryon Creek State Park, and the esteemed International Rose Test Garden.

Real Estate
The homes in Southwest Portland generally enjoy larger lots than many other parts of the city, and range from sprawling ranches to newly built townhomes and condominiums.
